Intellectual property

An umbrella term for various ‘creations of the mind’ – creative works or ideas embodied in a form that can be shared or can enable others to recreate, emulate, or manufacture them. Intellectual property covers two broad categories:

  • Industrial or commercial property – inventions (patents), trademarks, industrial designs, and geographic indications of source;

  • Copyright - literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other intellectual works.

Intellectual property law firm (IP law firm)

A law firm which specializes in providing legal services in the area of intellectual property.


Intellectual property law jobs (IP law jobs)

Various legal professions in the area of intellectual property, such as patent lawyers, patent agents, trademark lawyers, copyright lawyers, entertainment lawyers and attorneys or counselors practicing in the same area of law.


Intellectual property legal services

Covers the scope of legal services which are related to the area of intellectual property (patents, trademarks, copyright, trade secrets, unlawful competition, entertainment), such as patent prosecution, trademark prosecution, counseling on strategic portfolio development, licensing issues and other intellectual property-related matters, such as trade secret protection.


Intellectual property litigation

This type of litigation refers to all matters relating to contentious proceedings involving intellectual property rights. The field covers counseling and representation for disputes in a wide range of intellectual property areas, such as patent, trademark, and copyright infringement, trade secret misappropriation, unfair competition, false advertising, and entertainment related disputes.


Information Technology law

A legal field which studies the law governing information technology. These laws generally govern the process and dissemination of digital information. The laws concern a broad range of topics, relating to computer software, protection of computer software, access and control of digital information, privacy, security, internet access and usage, and electronic commerce, to name a few.


Inventor

An inventor is a person who creates or discovers new methods, means or devices for performing a task. In relation to United States patent law, an inventor is the person or persons who contribute to the claims of a patentable invention. Absent a contract or license stating otherwise, the inventors are the individuals who own the rights to an issued patent.


Invention

An invention is the conception of a new idea, machine, composition, or process. It covers all innovations or discoveries that are or may be patentable.


Inventors Club

Inventors clubs are usually non-profit organizations whose members share a common interest in innovation. They serve to encourage, promote, and stimulate the development and dissemination of new products and ideas.
